The Best Way To Beat The Intense Humidity In Florida

Florida is a very hot and muggy state. While some areas are hotter than others, nearly all cities and counties are affected by a massive amount of moisture. This is one of the drawbacks of living in a near-tropical climate. Fortunately, there are several strategies for beating the intense humidity in Florida.

It is important to note that home cooling systems can actually extract humidity from the indoor air. In fact, this is a large part of what this equipment has been designed to do. Not only is it designed to keep the property at a sufficiently safe temperature, but it also constantly removes extra moisture. In areas that are especially humid, this moisture is deposited into a condensate pan that lies at the base of the main unit.

Due to the fact that this particular region is both hot and humid, AC units have to work twice as hard as they would in a region with comparable temperatures but less moisture. This makes it doubly important for local homeowners to have their systems serviced twice yearly. You should never wait until the hottest months arrive before turning your system on and testing it.

There are a number of reasons why this is true. The first of these is the fact that both temperatures and humid conditions can become dangerously high within this state. This is especially true for aging adults, infants and those with compromised immunity or any chronic health conditions. Issues such as asthma attacks, heat stroke, heat exhaustion and severe dehydration are common.

Another important point to consider is the fact that a lot of consumers tend to wait until the very last minute to seek these services. As a result, local companies are often overwhelmed with service requests. This means that people may need to wait to get the help that they need, even when living in extreme indoor temperatures and when dealing with companies that pride themselves in issuing timely responses.

People do have the ability to perform some forms of AC maintenance all on their own. In fact, there are several steps that you should be taking every one to two months, especially if you happen to run your cooling system regularly. These include checking and emptying the condensate pan at the base of your machine. This will prevent the pain from overflowing and causing moisture damage to the surrounding flooring and building materials. Filters should be cleaned or replaced every two to four months.

Homeowners should not, however, attempt to replace actual AC components or conduct other work that might void the warranties on this costly equipment. The surest way to keep any manufacturer agreements in tact is by having only licensed professionals conduct more intensive maintenance work. This can also be important for avoiding physical injury.

If you currently have a swamp cooler in your home, you should know that this system will do absolutely nothing to reduce humidity. In fact, it will actually contribute it. These systems get their cooling power from moisture that is already present in the air. As the result, they will simply be routine humid conditions right into your abode. If you want both heat and humidity relief, you should contact a reputable AC contractor right away who can install a more modern cooling system.
