Differences Between Central AC & Ductless HVAC

Air conditioning is not optional in Tampa, North Port, Town 'n' Country, Port Charlotte, Greater Carrollwood, Citrus Park, and Westchase, FL but there are many choices to make about which kind of system you use. Central A/C and Ductless “mini split” systems both have pros and cons. Total Air Solutions offers these important points to consider when deciding between these two kinds of air conditioners.

Central Air Conditioning

Central Air: The greater size, ranger, and power of these systems is better for larger homes. Ducted systems are compatible with a wide range of HVAC and indoor air quality products, like dehumidifiers and air purifiers. They provide better air filtration. In general, the initial cost of these systems is lower than a ductless AC. The downsides include higher ongoing utility costs, and the necessity for ductwork repair and cleaning. Central AC is a stronger form of cooling, but doesn’t provide the same precise results from room to room.

Ductless HVAC System

Ductless HVAC: Mini-split systems are easy to install, and require less work to maintain. They also provide tremendous flexibility, giving greater control over indoor temperatures. With such enhanced efficiency, they need to run less often, which generates long-term savings of utility costs. On the other hand, air filters in ductless HVAC systems are not as strong, which can lead to lower indoor air quality. Filters and drains need to be cleaned regularly for maximum performance. While long-term costs are lower, the initial investment is higher than that of traditional central A/C.
